Houston Methodist Hospital System Receives $50,000 Award for Excellence in Medication-Use Safety from the ASHP and Cardinal Health Foundations
New Orleans, LA ― The ASHP Research and Education Foundation and Cardinal Health Foundation announced last night that Houston Methodist Hospital System in Texas is the recipient of the 2015 Award for Excellence in Medication-Use Safety. The award is the only national honor that recognizes a pharmacist-led interprofessional team for implementing significant institution-wide improvements in medication safety.

ASHP Foundation Releases New Trends Report to Assist Pharmacy Leaders in Strategic Planning
BETHESDA, MD ― The ASHP Research and Education Foundation has released its newest new trends report in the series Pharmacy Forecast 2016-2020: Strategic Planning Advice for Pharmacy Departments in Hospitals and Health Systems. The Pharmacy Forecast reports were created to help pharmacy practice leaders plan effectively for the future. Last year’s report was downloaded nearly 10,000 times.

Providence Health & Services PGY1 and Providence Medical Group PGY2 Ambulatory Care Residency Programs Receive ASHP Foundation 2015 Pharmacy Residency Excellence Program Award
BETHESDA, MD ― The ASHP Research and Education Foundation will recognize the recipients of the 2015 Pharmacy Residency Excellence Awards at a special reception held during the ASHP 2015 Midyear Clinical Meeting in New Orleans, Louisiana. This awards program, supported by an educational donation provided from Amgen, Inc., recognizes excellence in pharmacy residency training through recognition of residency programs, preceptors and new preceptors. The recipients of this award have demonstrated excellence and innovation in training pharmacy residents and serve as models for other residency programs and preceptors.

Joseph T. Hanlon Receives ASHP Foundation 2015 Award for Sustained Contributions
BETHESDA, MD ― Joseph T. Hanlon, Pharm.D., M.S., has been named the recipient of the ASHP Research and Education Foundation 2015 Literature Award for Sustained Contributions. Dr. Hanlon is a tenured professor of geriatric medicine with secondary faculty appointments in pharmacy and epidemiology at the University of Pittsburgh. He is also a health scientist with the Geriatric Research Education and Clinical Center at the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System in Pittsburgh. The ASHP Foundation will recognize all of this year’s Literature Awardees during the 2015 ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting in New Orleans, Louisiana. Read about all of the awardees.

ASHP Foundation Hosts 2015 Research Boot Camp Participants This Week
BETHESDA, MD ― Following the completion of an intensive four-month distance education program, the ASHP Research and Education Foundation will welcome five pharmacists selected to participate in the 2015 Research Boot Camp to ASHP headquarters from November 11-13. The Research Boot Camp, which is administered by the ASHP Foundation, is a research skills development program composed of distance education, experiential and research conduct components. ASHP Foundation Announces 2015 New Investigator Research Grant Recipients
BETHESDA, MD ― The ASHP Research and Education Foundation has awarded funding to two new investigators to study pharmacy practice model advances through the New Investigator Research Grant Program. This research grant program supports practice-based research conducted by pharmacist new investigators that relates to the assumptions, beliefs and recommendations from the November 2010 ASHP/ASHP Foundation Pharmacy Practice Model Initiative (PPMI) Summit.  A grant of approximately $20,000 goes to each recipient’s institution.

ASHP Foundation Announces 2015 Recipients of Pharmacy Practice Model Initiative Demonstration Grants
BETHESDA, MD ― The ASHP Research and Education Foundation has awarded funding to two pharmacist investigators through the Pharmacy Practice Model Initiative (PPMI) Demonstration Grant Program. This research grant program supports demonstration projects related to practice advancement, consistent with the ASHP/ASHP Foundation Pharmacy Practice Model Initiative (PPMI) and Ambulatory PPMI.

ASHP Foundation Announces Pharmacy Leadership Academy Class of 2015 
BETHESDA, MD ― The ASHP Research and Education Foundation has selected 52 pharmacists to participate in the 2015 Pharmacy Leadership Academy. The Academy, which was established in 2006 through a joint effort by the ASHP Foundation and ASHP and is supported in part by an educational donation from Amgen, Inc., provides leadership education applicable to all pharmacy practitioners in small to large hospitals and health systems who aspire to leadership positions in health-system pharmacy. Most importantly, this program directly benefits patients because participants apply their new-found skills in the health-system environment to improve medication-use safety, quality of care and use of health care resources.

ASHP Foundation Announces 2015 Recipients of the Master’s Residency Practice-Based Research Grants
BETHESDA, MD ― The ASHP Research and Education Foundation announced today that funding has been awarded to two pharmacy resident researchers through the 2015 Master’s Residency Practice-Based Research Grant Program. This program supports practice-based research related to the ASHP/ASHP Foundation Pharmacy Practice Model Initiative (PPMI) or Ambulatory PPMI. The research must be conducted by residents in ASHP-accredited pharmacy residency programs that combine completion of the residency and a master’s degree.

ASHP Foundation Announces 2015 Pharmacy Leadership Institute Participants
BETHESDA, MD ― The ASHP Research and Education Foundation has selected 40 pharmacists to participate in this week’s Pharmacy Leadership Institute from April 26 – May 1. This highly successful executive pharmacy educational program at Boston University’s Executive Leadership Center uses a relevant curriculum, high-quality instruction with peer interaction, and a project to broaden business skills and managerial versatility. The program fosters the extraordinary leadership demanded of today’s health-system pharmacy leaders. The Institute is offered as a collaborative effort with the ASHP Foundation’s Center for Health-System Pharmacy Leadership and Executive Leadership Center within Boston University’s School of Management, and is supported by the Cardinal Health Foundation.

ASHP Foundation Continues to Support Pharmacy Residency Training by Increasing Available Residency Positions
BETHESDA, MD ― The ASHP Research and Education Foundation established the Pharmacy Residency Expansion Grant Program in 2011 as a response to this crisis. This year, the ASHP Foundation awarded $400,000 in grants to 10 institutions for use in establishing additional pharmacy residency positions. Since 2011, the program has awarded more than $2.68 million to 67 institutions total.

ASHP Foundation Announces 2015 Recipients of the Pharmacy Resident Practice-Based Research Grants
BETHESDA, MD ― The ASHP Research and Education Foundation announced today that funding has been awarded to pharmacy resident researchers who seek to improve patient care by optimizing pharmacists’ roles. These studies will address a number of critical healthcare issues, including hepatitis C, hyperglycemia, oral anticoagulants, dyslipidemia therapy, and antimicrobial stewardship programs. The researchers are recipients of the 2015 ASHP Foundation Pharmacy Resident Practice-Based Research Grant Program.

ASHP Foundation Announces 2015 Pain and Palliative Care Traineeship Participants
BETHESDA, MD ― Fifteen pharmacists have been chosen to participate in the ASHP Research and Education Foundation’s 2015 Pain and Palliative Care Traineeship (Level 3). The Pain and Palliative Care Traineeship Program is a tiered educational initiative with unique educational activities that were designed so pharmacists can systematically acquire specific knowledge, skills, attitudes and performance behaviors to expand and enhance practice competencies in pain management and palliative care.

ASHP Foundation Announces 2015 Oncology Traineeship Participants
BETHESDA, MD ― Three pharmacists have been chosen to participate in the ASHP Research and Education Foundation’s 2015 Oncology Patient Care Traineeship. The traineeship is a 4-month educational experience during which pharmacists are trained to develop and maintain specialized services for the management of patients with cancer.

ASHP Foundation Announces 2015 Critical Care Traineeship Participants
BETHESDA, MD ― Twelve pharmacists have been chosen to participate in the ASHP Research and Education Foundation’s 2015 Critical Care Traineeship. The traineeship is a 5-month, ACPE-accredited educational experience during which pharmacists will be trained to develop and maintain specialized services for the management of critically ill patients.
