ASHP Foundation Announces 2017 Pharmacy Leadership Institute Participants

The ASHP Research and Education Foundation selected 41 pharmacists to participate in the Pharmacy Leadership Institute which took place July 9 – July 14. The Institute is conducted by Boston University Questrom School of Business, sponsored by Baxter, in cooperation with the ASHP Research and Education Foundation’s Center for Health-System Pharmacy Leadership. Highly acclaimed tenured professors at Boston University’s Questrom School of Business broadened participants’ business skills and managerial versatility through relevant curriculum, high-quality instruction, and peer interaction.

ASHP Foundation Recognizes 2016-2017 Critical Care Traineeship Participants 
Nine pharmacists recently completed the ASHP Research and Education Foundation’s Critical Care Concentrated Traineeship. This ACPE-accredited educational experience aims to train pharmacists to develop and maintain specialized services for the management of critically ill patients. Trainees received both intensive distance and experiential training to prepare them to participate on patient care teams as the health professional responsible and accountable for patients’ medication-related outcomes.

ASHP Foundation Recognizes Largest Pharmacy Leadership Academy Class to Graduate
The ASHP Research and Education Foundation’s Pharmacy Leadership Academy is pleased to announce that 86 pharmacists completed the 2016-2017 program. This was the largest class to graduate in the program’s 10-year history. The 2016-2017 class is also the first to bear the new designation of DPLA This designation was created to recognize pharmacists who have an expanded skill set and achievement in the area of leadership. Graduates of past classes may also use this designation.

ASHP Foundation Recognizes 2016-2017 Advanced Antithrombotic Management Traineeship Participants
Three pharmacists recently completed the ASHP Research and Education Foundation’s Advanced Antithrombotic Management Traineeship. This traineeship is a focused five-month postgraduate program. This traineeship was created to prepare pharmacists to establish, maintain, and improve antithrombotic therapy programs that result in optimal patient-level, population, and healthcare organization outcomes.

ASHP Foundation Announces 2017 Recepients of the Master's Resident Practice-Based Research Grants.
The ASHP Foundation announced today that funding has been awarded to four pharmacy resident researchers selected earlier this year through the 2017 Master's Resident Practice-Based Research Grant program. Grantees will conduct studies addressing medication alerts, telehealth services, and other high-impact, patient care areas.

ASHP Research and Education Foundation CEO Stephen J. Allen Announces Retirement Plans
ASHP Research and Education Foundation Board Chairman John T. Tighe, III announced today that the Foundation’s Chief Executive Officer, Stephen J. Allen, M.S., FASHP, has indicated that he plans to retire on December 31, 2017, and that the ASHP Foundation Board of Directors has initiated a process to select Mr. Allen’s successor.

ASHP Foundation Recognizes 2017 Oncology Traineeship Participants
Two pharmacists participated in the ASHP Research and Education Foundation’s Enhanced Oncology Patient Care Traineeship. The traineeship is a five-month educational experience during which pharmacists are educated and trained to develop and maintain specialized services for the management of patients with cancer. Trainees engage in intensive distance learning activities and complete 10 days of onsite experiential training.

ASHP Foundation Announces 2017 Patient-Centered Ambulatory Care Traineeship Participants
Four pharmacists recently completed the ASHP Research and Education Foundation’s Patient-Centered Ambulatory Care Optimized Traineeship. During this two-part educational program, participants learned to elevate quality, safety, and outcomes in medical homes, and clinics. Participants built competence that enabled them to implement services and quality metrics in their organizations, transform patient care, and optimize outcomes.

ASHP Foundation Announces the 2017 Advanced Pain Management Traineeship Participants
Properly managing chronic pain continues to be a top priority for healthcare professionals. This hands-on, five-month, tiered educational initiative combines distance and onsite experiential training. Pharmacists will learn to develop comprehensive services for patients in pain and those with palliative care needs and serve as a valuable resource on healthcare teams.

ASHP Foundation Announces 2017 Recipients of the Pharmacy Resident Practice-Based Research Grants
The ASHP Research and Education Foundation announced today that funding has been awarded to pharmacy resident researchers who hope to improve patient care by optimizing pharmacists’ roles through the 2017 ASHP Foundation Pharmacy Resident Practice-Based Research Grant Program. The grantees will study critical healthcare issues such as pharmacist-driven inhaler optimization, opioid therapy, gaps in care in patients with type 2 diabetes, hepatitis C clinic care delivery models, and empathy towards patient weight loss.

ASHP Foundation Continues to Support Pharmacy Residency Training by Increasing Available Residency Positions
There are more than 2,200 residency programs in the United States with approximately 4,586 positions available. More than 1,500 were unable to obtain a training spot because of the shortage of pharmacy residency positions and funding. This year, the ASHP Foundation awarded $275,000 in grants to 11 institutions for use in establishing additional pharmacy residency positions. Since its inception, the program has awarded more than $3.2 million to 88 institutions total.

ASHP Foundation Announces 2015-2016 New Investigator Research Grant Recipients
The ASHP Research and Education Foundation awarded funding to two new investigators to study pharmacy practice model advances through the 2015-2016 New Investigator Research Grant Program. The program aims to support quality research to advance pharmacy practice, develop new investigators’ research skills, and help grantees develop mentoring relationships with experienced senior investigators.

ASHP Foundation Announces 2016 Recipients of Pharmacy Practice Advancement Demonstration Grants
The ASHP Research and Education Foundation awarded funding to two pharmacist investigators through the 2015-2016 Pharmacy Practice Advancement Demonstration Grant Program. The program supports demonstration projects related to practice advancement, consistent with the ASHP/ASHP Foundation Practice Advancement Initiative (PAI) and Ambulatory PAI.
